Every color in the Andes has a story. This one is the deepest violet the highland sky turns before a storm rolls in over the Cusco mountains — captured in genuine first-shearing baby Huacaya alpaca fur, hand-dyed by our artisan families one piece at a time.

The Cloud Touch purple experience

Achieving a deep, consistent royal purple on genuine alpaca fiber requires a level of artisan skill that most producers never attempt. Synthetic plush can be dyed any color in a factory. Natural alpaca fiber absorbs color differently — the dye must be worked into the fiber by hand, batch by batch, until the saturation reaches the depth you see here.

The result is a color that breathes with the fiber. Not flat. Not printed. Hand-dyed in small batches by our artisan families in Cusco, Peru, using non-toxic eco-dye pigments that preserve the fiber's natural hypoallergenic properties.

The Cloud Touch sensation is the same as our natural undyed collection — genuine first-shearing baby Huacaya alpaca fur, naturally hollow-cored, dense without weight, soft without any synthetic friction. If you have ever felt a premium synthetic plush and thought something was missing — this is what was missing. Natural fiber. Real softness. The kind that comes from biology, not a chemical finish.

Handmade by one of our 35+ indigenous Andean artisan family cooperatives in the Peruvian highlands. One artisan, start to finish, multiple days of focused labor. Ships with an Artisan Story Card and Certificate of Authenticity.

Natural fiber vs synthetic plush

If you have bought premium synthetic plush before — the kind that feels extraordinary for the first few months — you already know what happens after washing. The chemical softening agents that created that first-touch sensation wash out. What remains is base polyester fiber with a fraction of its original softness.

Genuine first-shearing baby alpaca fur behaves differently. Spot cleaned correctly, it retains its natural softness and hypoallergenic properties indefinitely. The softness is not a surface treatment. It is a property of the fiber's molecular structure. It does not wash out.

For parents of children with sensory sensitivities, eczema, or fabric allergies — genuine baby alpaca fur is naturally lanolin-free and chemical-free. The purple dye used on this piece is non-toxic eco-dye that preserves these properties for most sensitivity types. For children with severe chemical sensitivities, our natural undyed Cloud Touch collection uses zero dye of any kind — the fiber exactly as it comes from the animal.

Care instructions

Spot clean gently with cool water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Never machine wash or tumble dry. Reshape by hand while damp and allow to air dry flat. With proper care your purple alpaca llama will hold its color, softness, and shape for years.

Q: Is the 12-inch llama good for sensory therapy? A: Yes! The 12-inch size provides enough surface area for a calming tactile experience. The therapeutic texture of the alpaca fur stuffed animal is often used to help reduce anxiety and provide a soothing "grounding" sensation for both kids and adults.

Q: Does the purple color transfer to clothes or bedding? A: No. We use professional-grade, eco-friendly dyes that are heat-set into the natural protein fibers. Once the Purple llama plush is finished, the color is locked in. However, we recommend keeping it away from moisture to maintain the fiber's integrity.

Q: How do I refresh the fluff if it gets flattened? A: Simply give your medium stuffed llama a vigorous shake! For a "spa treatment," use a soft-bristled brush to gently comb the fur. This restores the air pockets between the fibers, making it look brand new.

INSPIRED PERU

Inspired Peru is an artisan cooperative consisting of 35 artisans; the majority are widows and heads of household from indigenous communities in the Peruvian highlands. Ethically sourced, local alpaca wool is used to craft products, such as stuffed animals and accessories, that celebrate the artisans’ ancestral and cultural heritage. The artisans generally work from the comfort of their home; however, they have access to a communal workshop in the city of Lima. At Inspired Peru, artisans are empowered to transmit their traditional skills to future generations while expanding their business and leadership skills. Artisans have access to skill development programs through Inspired Peru. We are proud to partner with artisans at Inspired Peru.

THE TECHNIQUE

On average, six to eight artisans collaborate on the production of these stuffed animals. It takes about five days to craft each of these adorable, hypoallergenic stuffed animals. The process begins with artisans shaping molds and carefully sewing the body. Each animal’s face is separately constructed, giving each piece a very realistic flair. After carefully shaving the alpaca, the hair is washed and sun-dried for one to two days. Depending on the item, the artisans may dye the alpaca hair using vibrant colors. Dying involves additional hand-wash cycles to reach the desired color. Molds are separately made using flexible cardboard. Artisans carefully hand-glue the washed alpaca hair to the mold. Once dried, the hair is thoroughly hand-combed to reach its staple softness. No animal cruelty is involved in the sourcing of the alpaca hair.
